Amy Di Leo, founder of Aim Hi Public Relations, began her career as a journalist, in a fast-paced television newsroom at News 12 Long Island during the early years of the 24-hour station, from 1989-2000. There she honed her writing skills and learned how to meet deadlines, crafted and copy-edited stories, and kept her wits about her and a smile on her face, while dealing with the day-to-day pressures of a deadline news environment.
At that time, News 12 Long Island had pulled in some of the top hardened television journalists in the country: Drew Philips, Hardie Mintzer, Gene Marciona, Ken Dickman, among others, from CNN and other networks to help start up its 24-hour local news channel. Amy had the good fortune to learn from these masters. She worked her way from Assignment Desk Intern to Production Assistant, to Associate Producer... eventually to Line Producer for the #1 rated morning news program at the time. Today she is still very well-respected in the field of television journalism. Amy is honored to have worked with well-respected on-air personalities: Carol Silva, Lea Tyrrell, Joe Cioffi, Danielle Campbell, Carolyn Gusoff, Trish Bergin, Judy Martin, Scott Feldman, and many other award-winning journalists, reporters, videographers, assignment editors, videotape editors, and other newsroom staff. She is also proud to still call these seasoned journalist her friends.
Unfortunately in the news business some of the more exciting news days stem from tragedy. Some of the most memorable stories covered during Amy's tenure at News 12 included: the TWA Flight 800 crash, the LIRR Massacre, JFK Junior plane crash, Long Island's east end wildfires, plus numerous weather emergencies, gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Martin Tankleff trial and Amy Fisher trial. Amy has always prided herself on being one step ahead and thinking outside-the-box when it came to programming - even if it meant putting her sister on air from Los Angeles after the Northridge earthquake. She brought this talent and love of finding unique ways to tell stories to the world of public relations when she left the newsroom in 2000.
